Above we were referring to a hierarchical organization of the content on the website. In this sense, the main information is the cover page, which corresponds to the root URL of the website. From this homepage, we will find, as if it were the trunk of a tree, the hyperlinks to the rest of the pages that make up the site, thus offering us the general structure of all the content.
Likewise, there is a wide variety of websites, differentiated, in general, by the kind of information they provide. Among the multiple numbers of types, we will briefly see the most common:
- Personal blogs, where a person writes articles or posts about their tastes, preferences or subjects that they master. To create them, there are platforms such as WordPress or Blogger.
- Company sites, used by companies to publicize the company, its products and its services.

- Auction sites, where items are auctioned on the net, such as eBay.
- News sites, dedicated to commenting and giving current information. For example, the websites of the big newspapers.

- E-commerce sites, to purchase products through the network. Amazon.com is the most widely used.
- Search site, with Google as an example.
What is a web page?
A web page is a document on the Internet that contains text, images, links and/or audio. The set of web pages, according to what has been explained, constitutes a website. Its creation is a complex process since to carry it out, knowledge of programming languages ??(PHP, HTML or ASP) is necessary; languages ??that, in turn, are interpreted by browsers to make content visible to users.
These web pages can also be divided into two types: static and dynamic. The static, typical of the time of the birth and development of the Internet, are characterized by content that does not vary over a period of time and by an absence of interaction with the navigator. They basically consist of text and images.
The dynamics, meanwhile, allow interaction with the user in real-time through, for example, forums. This is possible thanks to its connection with databases that develop web applications. This first appeared in the 90s, at which time the growth of the network of networks became exponential. Social networks, virtual stores or search engines are just some examples of this type of web page.
Both classes can also be divided into private and public. Regarding the former, say that they are those to which only a limited number of identified users can enter. While the public pages, on the other hand, are available to any navigator who enjoys an Internet connection.
Difference between a Website and a Web page
We started this article by mentioning the common and erroneous tendency in many people to use the term web page to refer to what a website really is. So, with the previous explanation, we wanted to make it clear that, in no case, these concepts mean the same thing.
In short: we know that a website refers to the space formed by different documents, which are organized hierarchically on the Internet, while web pages are each of those documents that make up the website.
Or even simpler: web pages are the parts into which a website is divided.
We will end with a metaphor that will clear up any doubts that we may still have regarding a Website and a Web page. Imagine, for example, a newspaper that, of course, is divided into different sections. Taking into account the definition of the concepts that concern us, we could affirm that the newspaper is the website, while the web pages correspond to each of the sections that it contains.
